Ramifications

These chemilumen prints were created by the application of harmful chemicals to photographic paper during a process of sunlight printing.  This act had ramifications.  Some might call it a destructive act but I’m not so sure.  The images are undeniably altered but have they been destroyed?  The trees are strewn with voids, but from those voids, something else is emerging.

These photographs are a metaphor for the detrimental effects that humans are currently having on the biosphere.  Humans cause destruction, but they also create the potential for change.

Each chemilumen in this series is unique.  Each one was created by a serendipitous process.  And each one is ephemeral.  In this respect, the photographs are very much like nature itself.
